M de MANGOT Blanc
We really like white wines…
and we have been wanting to make some for years now…
In 2009, from the frustration not to have white grapes in our vineyard was born our Rosé… or should we say our “blanc de noir”, made like a great white…
With one of our friends who is also a winemaker and who shares our passion, we decided to attempt this journey together. We were seduced by a 0,85 hectare-plot that was planted in 2010 on the clayey soils of Castillon,
2 km north of Château La Brande…
Our desire to create something new was fulfilled by a plot planted with 3 very non-traditional Bordelaise varieties, yet with a big potential:
- 1400 Colombard vines, a variety from the South-West of France.
- 1300 Chardonnay vines, a variety from Burgundy.
- 1100 Roussanne vines, a variety from the Rhône Valley.
Our white wine will be consequently classified as a VIN DE FRANCE.
We are growing our vines with great care, we do not use any weed-killer and only a small amount of copper and sulfur. Each grape variety is harvested at different dates to get the best maturity possible.
45% of Colombard, harvested on the 25th of September,
30% of Roussanne, harvested on the 21st of September,
25% of Chardonnay, harvested on the 11th of September.
3 grape-varieties, 2 wine-making processes:
In order to get the best from the Chardonnay and Roussanne varieties, they have been vinified in a concrete egg-shaped tank. Thanks to its shape, the tank creates a circular flow and makes it easier to keep the lees that give the wine a rich and smooth mouth.
On the other hand, the Colombard variety is vinified in a still tank to preserve its aromatic profile and its nice natural acidity.
It allows us to use a wine-making process as natural as possible, without adding any sulfur, from the grape-pressing to the end of the aging process, in order to develop as many aromas as possible and to work with twice less sulfur as allowed in organic viticulture.
